The Thirst Responder

Straight out of the tap. Clean, local and award-winning water! 

The Thirst Responder is now closed for the winter season. We look forward to seeing you again in May 2026.

The District of Muskoka’s Thirst Responder water trailer can provide cold tap water, free of charge, to select public events between May 1 and October 31. 
The Thirst Responder will be delivered and set up by District Staff and features 10 water taps for bottle refilling.

 Event Eligibility Criteria:

  • The event must be located within the District of Muskoka and take place during the operating season (May 1 – October 31)
  • Have a minimum estimated attendance of 250.
  • Event must be at least four hours or longer
  • Event must run during daylight hours
  • Be open to the public and non-restrictive
  • Event organizers must provide an appropriate area with sufficient space to set up (12’ x 12’) 

How it Works:

  1. Applications must be received at least three weeks prior to the event date. (Trailer may not be available during emergencies.)
  2. Applicants will be notified of their application status two weeks prior to event date.
  3. If approved, staff will arrange a time to conduct a site assessment to ensure the trailer can be set up in a suitable location to access a safe supply of drinking water. (Successful applicants will be asked to provide a site plan.)
  4. Crews will deliver and connect the trailer to a safe supply of potable water on the agreed upon date and time.
  5. Once event is complete, staff will disconnect and remove The Thirst Responder.

Important Note:

The District of Muskoka reserves the right to remove The Thirst Responder without notice or penalty, or to deny a request should an event not comply with the Ontario Human Rights Code, or the District’s Respectful Workplace Policy. This includes events that promote hatred or discrimination against race, ancestry, gender, sexual orientation, age, family status, or disability.

Please note that a site assessment will be conducted before final confirmation of a trailer’s attendance. The Thirst Responder Water Trailer Program reserves the right to withdraw from an event at any time without compensation to the event or organization that has received confirmation of a Water Trailer presence. 

Privacy policy and notice of collection
Personal information is being collected pursuant to Section 28 of the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and will be used for the purpose of The Thirst Responder water trailer and to respond to inquiries regarding this process. Comments and input provided may form part of the project documentation and therefore be subject to disclosure pursuant to MFIPPA or other applicable legislation.
